Flyers
About this Project
My task to create flyers allowed me to be more creative and work with design on Canva. These flyers were hung up in the institute's halls and sent to students via WhatsApp to inform them about upcoming events. When designing these flyers, I found myself considering lessons from past professional writing classes to inform my creative choices and layout. For example, I used the CRAP principles to ensure the information on each flyer shared the same contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity. One way I used these principles was that I made the alignment and proximity of the text on the Candy Palm Making flyer reflect the spacing of the candy palms in the image. I had also originally wanted to use white text in the photoshoot flyer because it would match the docks, buildings, and boats, but I chose black instead because black text better contrasted the blue background.
I also condensed the words on each flyer to prioritize the most important information since my audience of students will want to find the facts about the event quickly. The Instagram Spring Break Challenge flyer was the most difficult to condense because there was a list of rules that needed to be included. To overcome this challenge, I numbered the rules and bolded the prize to draw eyes to the point of interest. When students realize they could win a pizza night, they would be more likely to want to read the rest of the flyer to find out how to win.

I enjoyed designing flyers because I could enhance my visual PWR skills in addition to my other writing and editing tasks. In fact, the focus on my flyers' audience caused an interrelationship between all of the tasks I was working on. Working with PWR concepts related to visual layout gave me a more well-rounded skillset and connected all aspects of my internship to each other and to the same PWR terms.
