Editing

This page contains examples of my edits and communication with students chosen to publish their projects in Elon's Professional Writing and Rhetoric department's online publication Phoenix Rhetorix and with students in my Advanced Creative Writing class. The two students I worked with for Phoenix Rhetorix created podcasts, so I sent suggested revisions for their transcripts to prepare their final product for publication. This process was a great way to apply the editing and communication skills I learned to published work. In my creative writing class, I gave feedback in a more casual form and explained my notes in more detail in person.

Phoenix Rhetorix Transcripts

These are the original podcast transcripts with the Track Changes edits I made. The student projects I edited are "Not the Main Character" by Mary Kate McDonald and "Racial Disparities in the U.S. Justice System" by Malcolm Capers.

Phoenix Rhetorix Memos

My classmate, Liz, and I sent these memos to the students whose podcasts we edited. The memos detail what we enjoyed about the podcast transcripts and include suggested revisions for the writers. We wanted to present ourselves as professional, but friendly and approachable, editors.

Creative Writing Feedback

For Elon's creative writing workshops, I read my peers' pieces and write casual and friendly, but direct feedback which I further explain in class. I've participated in workshops like this since my first year at Elon, but these examples are my most recent feedback.
